Ceramic coating: when to check it and how to care for it

How long a ceramic coating lasts and when to redo it is the question we hear most. The honest answer is that it depends on the car and where it is kept. Rather than promise one number, here is how to gauge the state of your coating and the principles that keep it lasting.

The coating care cycle

  1. 1.Regular wash

    Wash gently before dirt hardens.

  2. 2.Watch the state

When you spray water, see whether the way droplets bead and run off has changed from before.

  3. 3.Consult

If it has changed, call us to discuss whether it is a film of dirt or a change in the coating.

  4. 4.Reinforce if needed

Depending on the car, we advise whether to reinforce or redo it.

Why there is no single lifespan

The same coating gives different results on different cars. The product, the paint condition at the time of work, where the car is usually kept (outdoors or underground), mileage and washing habits all matter. A car left in sun and rain cannot be given the same period as a car kept underground.

That is why we do not promise a number of months or years on this page. We look at the car and where it is kept and advise you in a consultation.

How to gauge the state of the coating

  • After a wash, spray water and see whether droplets still bead and run off as before.
  • See whether dirt now sticks much faster or is harder to remove.
  • See whether water spots appear often.
  • See whether the gloss in clear sunlight has changed noticeably.

Basic care principles

  • Wipe off bird droppings, insect marks and acid-rain stains as soon as you can.
  • Strong acidic or alkaline cleaners can stress the coating, so use a pH-neutral shampoo.
  • Dry with soft tools such as microfiber and avoid rough towels.
  • Automatic car washes with brushes can cause fine scratches, so it is better to avoid them.
  • Washing in hot sun or on a hot body easily leaves water spots.

When to call us

  • A stain that will not come off when you wash
  • You feel the water beading has changed noticeably
  • After an accident, repainting or partial repair
  • When the check-up time you were told at the work is near

How polishing and coating relate

A coating is a protective layer on the paint and cannot remove scratches. Fine scratches should be polished out first so that a smooth surface is what gets protected. When you think about recoating, check the surface and whether polishing is needed first.

How to consult Ganzika

Frequently asked questions

How many years does a ceramic coating last?

It depends on the product, where the car is kept and how it is cared for, so we cannot give one period. We advise after looking at the car.

Do I not need to wash a coated car?

A coating is only a protective layer, and dirt still needs washing and care. We recommend washing gently with a pH-neutral shampoo before dirt hardens.

When should I have it checked?

Rather than fixing a date, we suggest consulting us when you see signs such as changed beading or stains that will not come off. If you were told a check-up time at the work, follow that first.

We explain quotes and schedules by phone.
